Some Canary Island palms are more suitable for indoor cultivation than others. The best varieties are those that don't overgrow, have a strong trunk, and can create a dense, lush canopy.
A good option for indoor cultivation is the Canary Island Goldfinger palm. It has a dark green trunk with vertical stripes and a beautiful feathery green canopy. Other good varieties are Rosetta, Congo and Parlor (sometimes called red palm).
If your plant is going to be exposed to direct sun, make sure it is a variety that adapts well in full sun. The overall health of a plant and its suitability as a houseplant can be assessed by its leaves.
They should be dark green and bright, with no signs of pests or diseases. If the leaves are spotted, discolored, or have insect eggs, the plant could be contaminated and should be moved away from it. Healthy plants have great-looking leaves and are the most attractive.
